Mike is still unresponsive, but we choose to believe that his yawns, mouth movements, and eye movements are some indication that he can hear us and feel our love in some small ways.
In his new long term hospital, my kids are allowed to visit! It has been such a wonderful and healing change for our family, and alleviated my concerns that I wouldn't be able to visit without finding childcare. Mike loves them so much. My daughter read him a story last night, and my son colored him a picture and taped it to the wall. They like making sure he gets Chapstick on because his lips looks so dry.
We gave him a Pokemon stuffed animal and soft blanket for Christmas, and let him feel the softness on his hands, arms and cheeks.
We have made friends with Marta, the woman in the next room. She is awake but unable to speak. She doesn't understand much English and is grateful to have some Spanish speakers come by and visit with her. My daughter chose a story to read to her in Spanish, and her smile spoke all of the words she didn't have.
The kids also brought gifts on Christmas Eve for the nursing staff that was so kind to be there for Mike.
We are grateful for small improvements for Mike and opportunities and enough love to share with his neighbors and caregivers.
Mike is ready for your visit. He would love for you to come and tell him about your day, your journey, or read him your favorite story. Let us know when you're ready.

I would love to come visit! May I get the details and info to come visit?
